Greg said the photos he is using for LinkedIn and at work was a cropped photo from his wedding. I see this a lot when I would take head shots for US Foods. That and taking a selfie in your car. While I whole heartedly think you should use a photo that looks like you and one that makes you feel great about it I think getting some sort of professional photo taken is the way to go. 

My headshot shoots are pretty nontraditional in the sense that I don’t set up a background or do them in a studio. I think that people are way more comfortable to have their photo taken when it can be outdoors. Doesn't feel as stuffy which in turn makes people feel more relaxed infant of the camera.
