Adventures in Italy Spring 2018 - Treviso and Venice
This is the last leg of our trip! I put our albums together for us and Bobby + Jen. I am looking to order some big prints and already dreaming of our next adventure.
Treviso
We stayed in Treviso which was a 30 minute train ride to Venice. A few weeks prior to us leaving, Bobby had read that pretty much all of Italy shuts down on Easter Sunday so we were concerned that day might be a wash so we considered driving to Croatia. When we got to the hotel, the woman at the front desk suggested we go to Venice when there were less people there. We decided to explore our little town first and see if there was any place to eat and if there wasn't, we'd hop on a train to Venice.
Treviso ended up being closed! It felt like a ghost town. Nothing was open. But we did get a nice little walk in through a colorful neighborhood before deciding to venture to Venice!
I feel like I should note that it was 64 degrees that Sunday and absolutely perfect.
Venice
Because the woman at the from desk suggested it may be less crowded we decided to do the big "must see" spots on Sunday and shop on Monday. I had been to Venice 6 years ago and when we stepped out of he train station I could not believe how packed it was. I definitely did not remember it being that crazy. We made our way to San Marco and Rialto and it was basically a sea of tourists you had to push through. If you go to Venice:
-Make sure to do the "must see" spots. It may make you hate human beings because you will inevitably get stuck walking behind the slowest walkers in the world in a sea of what feels like million but it is worth it.
-Once you have done that, go to the quieter side of Venice! The whole trip we were making jokes about how we were such old people because we liked to follow the rules or preferred the less crowded places but honestly I don't even care! I loved exploring the less crowded area and having some streets of Venice to ourselves. When you get out of the train station and are looking at the Grand Canal, go right. You will eventually hit a bridge that crosses the water to the other side. Take and it and go in the opposite direction of San Marco. We had a blast getting lost in Venice! I think we ended up walking the same path about 20 times that day because all the little walkways look the same but in that time we got some great souvenirs and food.
-Venice is one of the most unique places I've ever been. They don't have roads or cars so you take a boat or you walk. I think my biggest recommendation is just to get lost. You never know what you might stumble upon there!
